Piano Man rare signed music print by artist Christina Balit. Each original drawing took approximately 10 days to complete and began as a series of heavily worked pencil sketches made inside recording studios, jazz clubs, rehearsal rooms and on the street.  They were then developed from memory using a range of fine-liner rotring pens and ink directly onto Bristol board, using pattern, cross hatching and extensive intricate dot-work.  They have been produced as a limited edition of 20 Giclee' prints by the Fine Art Printers Art4Site in Wye.  18 x 13 inches, 46 x 33 cms in size, each hand numbered and hand titled in pencil by Christina. All are on Archival Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper 308gsm and produced with archival pigment inks and museum grade digital fine art paper. A FEW WORDS ON THE PRINTS by Christina Balit. The shape the body makes when playing an instrument is compulsive viewing and the hands in particular are overwhelming.  Musicians are both God-like and alien in my view.  Cos they can just do that thing. Jazz musicians in particular.  The improvising, the group interaction, the breathtaking solos, the angles, the shoulders, the louche elegance of what they are playing.  The connection to the city, to things urban and critical edgy men and women who can do something I can only dream of doing.  Jazz was a bit of a running soundtrack as a child.  Both my parents were huge fans and despite their nomadic life - we moved often and all over the world - they always packed the vinyl and took their music with them.  Later in my late teens I moved to England very close the 606 Club on the Kings Road.  I made hundreds of line drawings in there, in biro, felt tip, whatever I had to hand.  I quite liked not having the option to rub anything out a biro is such a utility staple and unrefined, its difficult to be precious about things when using it and yet it can be so organic and pliable.  And there's always one in the bottom of the bag.  As a professional book illustrator I've always worked in very vibrant, almost ornamental colours, utilising patterns and gold extensively and in great detail but when I return to drawing for its own sake I feel like I'm turning back to a base stop.  To how I think.  To the sharp simplicity of black 'upon' white.  The human body is always first and foremost my concern.  It always has been.  An obsession almost.  How it holds itself and folds itself and bends and twists and dances.  I draw a lot of dancers.  Street musicians particularly impress me - they are the new troubadours.  Everyone passes by them.  Because life is busy.  But we're all a little bouncier when we do pass and try to fall into step. The prints all began as a series of heavily worked pencil sketches made inside recording studios, jazz clubs, rehearsal rooms and on the street.  They were then developed from memory using a range of fine-liner rotring pens and ink directly onto Bristol board, using pattern, cross hatching and extensive intricate dot-work.
